AI Startups Are Becoming Boring as Fuck

Everyone is building the same agent, wrapping the same model, raising the same round, and calling it infrastructure.

We get it. AI is moving fast. Models are getting better every week. There are billions of dollars flying around and nobody wants to miss the next big thing. So founders do what founders do. They look at what is working, copy the shape, add a slightly better demo and hope nobody notices how similar everything is.

The problem is that most of these companies are optimizing for what investors already understand. Another enterprise agent. Another workflow layer. Another vertical AI company with the exact same pitch deck and a different font.

And that is where things get boring.

The best companies usually look a little wrong at first. Too early. Too weird. Too hard. Too niche. Sometimes completely fucking insane.

A founder building robots instead of another AI interface. Someone attacking an industry everyone thinks is too boring for venture. A company creating an entirely new category instead of squeezing another few points out of an existing one.

Those companies are harder to pitch because there isn't already a neat box waiting for them.

Good.

Maybe we should stop asking whether a startup looks like a good investment and start asking whether it looks like something that actually needs to exist.

The next great AI company probably won't look like an AI company at all.

It'll look like something nobody has a name for yet.

And we'd much rather cover that.
